Responsibilities

Tasks

Determine type of glass, frames and material required.

Measure, mark and cut glass.

Position and secure panes in frame

Assemble and install prefabricated glass, mirrors or glass products.

Install door, window and other hardware.

Repair glass doors and other glass structures

Assemble, erect and dismantle scaffolding, rigging and hoisting equipment.

Experience and specialization

 

Type of glass/materials

Acrylic plexiglass; Float glass; Mirrors; Sealed units.

Glass cutting equipment and techniques.

Cutting wheels; Self-lubricating cutters; Computerized cutters; Cut glass plate manually (straight cuts); Temper glass.

Installation specialization

Curtain walls; Stained glass installations; Overhead automatic doors; Shower doors and tub enclosures; Display cases; Walls and other interior areas (i.e. partitions)

Transportation/travel information: Vehicle supplied by employer.

Work conditions and physical capabilities

Physically demanding; Handling heavy loads; Standing for extended periods; Bending, crouching, kneeling
