Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled Manager, Electrical Engineering Service, to oversee all aspects of Embedded Systems Engineering and Product Development at Smartgro. The candidate will undertake a high-level project management role, focusing on electrical engineering and embedded system development for our Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and NRC-IRAP clean-tech demonstration project.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of Embedded Systems Engineering and Product Development at Smartgro.
  • Streamline and oversee project management for electrical engineering and embedded system development in collaboration with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and NRC-IRAP.
  • Collaborate closely with key project stakeholders at the University of Windsor, Turbulence and Energy Lab to ensure project success.
  • Conduct electrical engineering research and product development of smartGRO embedded systems, building upon prior work on our proprietary ultra-high efficiency horticultural clean tech products.
  • Design innovative electrical schematics and layouts for proprietary product development.
  • Assemble prototypes, conduct testing, and lead agile design iterations with our development team.
  • Collaborate with third-party product safety testing firms to ensure safety compliance.
  • Develop a Canadian manufacturing facility, including the selection and design of electronics assembly line equipment.
  • Utilize knowledge and experience in electronics production equipment, assembly line management, PCBA assembly line practices, and clean room workflow.
  • Create and implement assembly workflows, quality control, and quality assurance programs that align with ISO requirements.
  • Prepare R&D technical reports for company stakeholders and other relevant R&D activities.
  • Develop and optimize firmware for embedded systems, focusing on seamless integration of automatic facial recognition, machine vision, and image processing algorithms.
  • Leverage expertise in openCV or equivalent tools to design, implement, and enhance advanced features for image recognition and edge detection in our product.
  • Contribute to AI model development and integration, utilizing machine and deep learning techniques to improve product performance and capabilities.

Requirements:

  • MSc degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Embedded Systems is mandatory.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in firmware development for IoT products.
  • Proven experience in managing embedded systems engineering and product development projects.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices, with a focus on designing innovative schematics and layouts.
  • Proficiency in assembling prototypes, conducting tests, and leading agile design iterations.
  • Familiarity with safety evaluation and compliance with third-party product safety testing firms.
  • Experience in developing and managing manufacturing facilities, including the selection and design of electronics assembly line equipment.
  • Strong understanding of assembly line management, PCBA assembly line practices, and clean room workflow.
  • Knowledge of ISO requirements and experience implementing relevant manufacturing standards.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at varying levels.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare detailed technical reports.
  • Previous experience in the agriculture industry or clean-tech sector is preferred but not required.
