Salary: $23 to $26 / hour (To be negotiated)

On site: Work must be completed at the physical location. There is no option to work remotely

The Role: Reporting to the Grocery Department Head, the Assistant Grocery Department Head provides support in the department’s daily operation and to ensure that it is functioning under good conditions.

Education

• Completion of high school degree

Experience

• 3+ years of experience in supermarket/food production retail chain store operations
• 1+ year of supervisory experience in supermarket/food production retail chain store

• Non-smoking, Noisy, Odours

Work Setting

• Round-trip transportation costs to the place of employment at the beginning and the end of the contract
• Supermarket/grocery store

Ability to Supervise

• 25-30 people, Staff in various areas of responsibility

Specific Skills

• Assign duties to sales staff and other workers in the grocery department
• Supervise and co-ordinate activities of workers in the grocery department
• Manage and supervise staff performance
• Provide coaching, on-the-job training, shadowing, guidance and supervision to department staff; promote teamwork and create an inclusive working environment
• Establish work schedules
• Manage day-to-day business operations of the grocery department. This includes: managing merchandise, placing orders, as well as planning and executing promotional activities to achieve departmental goals
• Prepare reports on sales volumes, merchandising and personnel matters
• Resolve problems that arise, such as customer complaints and supply shortages
• Organize and manage inventory in both the display and walk-in coolers
• Conduct quality control during the receipt of inventory
• Oversee product quality, freshness and ensure “First-In, First-Out” (FIFO) is strictly practiced within the department
• Collect and analyze market information, and design response measures
• Maximize customers’ satisfaction, build rapport with our customers by providing a good smile, eye contact and attention to them
• Sell merchandise on occasion
• Lead by example by performing all hands-on duties required in the grocery department
