Job Summary
A private family in Ottawa, Ontario is seeking a compassionate, dependable Caregiver to provide daily assistance and companionship to an elderly family member in a respectful, safe, and culturally familiar home environment.
The ideal candidate will have practical experience supporting seniors with personal care, meal preparation, and daily activities, and must be able to communicate effectively with a senior who speaks primarily Mandarin.
We welcome Canadians, permanent residents, and newcomers to Canada who have experience caring for seniors and wish to make a meaningful difference in a family setting.
Main Duties
Assist with personal care, including bathing, dressing, and grooming, while encouraging independence and dignity
Prepare nutritious meals aligned with the senior’s dietary needs, including Chinese cuisine to meet cultural and nutritional preferences
Provide companionship and emotional support to promote mental well-being
Support mobility and light physical exercises under family guidance
Administer medications according to instructions
Perform light housekeeping, laundry, and errands related to the senior’s daily care
Observe and report any changes in the senior’s health or behavior to the family
Qualifications and Requirements
Completion of secondary school
Minimum 6 months of recent, relevant experience caring for seniors (paid or volunteer)
Ability to communicate in Mandarin to ensure safety and effective daily care for a senior with limited English proficiency
Knowledge of preparing traditional Chinese meals and managing dietary needs for older adults
Basic understanding of elder care routines and mobility assistance
Physically capable of assisting with transfers and light household duties
Demonstrates patience, empathy, and reliability
Employment Details
Location: Private home – Ottawa, Ontario
Hours: Full-time, 30–40 hours per week (schedule may vary based on the senior’s needs)
Accommodation: Private room available at no charge, if required (not a condition of employment)
Wage: $28/hr
Start Date: As soon as possible
