Human Resources Generalist
REPORTS TO
Head of Canadian Operations
POSITION SUMMARY
The Human Resources Generalist reports to the Head of Canadian Operations and provides operational human resources support to the organization within a pharmaceutical research and development environment. The primary role of this position is to support and coordinate day-to-day human resources activities in accordance with established organizational policies, procedures, and applicable legislation.
In this capacity, the HR Generalist models professional conduct and supports organizational values through the consistent application of HR policies and practices. The position assists with the collection, organization, and analysis of HR-related f, including employee feedback, training outcomes, workforce metrics, and other relevant information to support internal reporting and continuous improvement initiatives.
The HR Generalist contributes to fostering a positive and inclusive work environment by supporting employee relations processes, promoting clear communication, and assisting with the consistent application of workplace policies and procedures. The role supports compliance efforts by maintaining accurate documentation and coordinating HR activities in alignment with internal guidelines and regulatory requirements.
This position supports the execution of HR-related activities in collaboration with internal stakeholders in Biolab Pharma Canada and Biolab Farmacêutica Brazil, including recruitment coordination, employee relations support, compensation and benefits administration, training coordination, HRIS maintenance, and administrative support related to finance and payroll processes.
The HR Generalist provides operational and administrative support across multiple HR functions, requiring strong knowledge of internal processes and the ability to coordinate cross-border HR activities in alignment with established Canadian and Brazilian practices. Final decision-making authority related to policies, budgets, staffing, and disciplinary outcomes remains with senior management.

Work schedule:
Monday to Thursday: 7:30 a.m. to 4:10 p.m.
Friday: 7:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m.
Wage: $43.27 per hour

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
EMPLOYEE RELATIONS AND WORKPLACE SUPPORT
Serve as the primary HR contact for employees and leaders in Canada, providing guidance on attendance, benefits, workplace conduct, vacation, and leaves of absence.
Assist managers with disciplinary actions, ensuring fairness, consistency, and proper documentation aligned with legislation and corporate policy.
Mediate workplace conflicts, conduct investigations, and propose corrective action plans when necessary.
Conduct exit interviews, analyze trends, and recommend improvements to enhance employee retention.
Manage employee leaves, return-to-work programs, disability cases, and wellness initiatives, including complex cross-border situations overseen jointly with HR Brazil.
Provide HR guidance to employees and Administrative Assistants to strengthen HR understanding and leadership capability.
Communicate policy updates, HRIS changes, and procedural improvements across the organization.
HR ADMINISTRATION, COMPLIANCE, AND ANALYTICS
Maintain, update, and implement HR policies to ensure compliance with provincial, federal, and corporate requirements.
Handle daily HR administrative operations, including payroll coordination, employee files, HR databases, documentation control, and compliance tracking.
Monitor and interpret changes in Canadian labour legislation and relevant Brazilian HR regulations impacting cross-border operations.
Develop and present HR analytics dashboards, including metrics related to turnover, compensation trends, workforce demographics, PTO usage, performance assessments, promotions, training participation, and safety indicators.
Prepare HR metrics and reports for shareholders and senior leadership in Canada and Brazil.
Support HR budget tracking and reporting.
Draft internal communications to support organizational alignment and clarity.
Participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings and support compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
RECRUITMENT, WORKFORCE PLANNING, AND ONBOARDING
Support full-cycle recruitment, onboarding, and retention for R&D, Operations, and corporate teams.
Support recruitment planning activities in collaboration with HR Brazil.
Prepare and facilitate new hire onboarding programs and orientations.
Draft, review, and update job descriptions in partnership with leadership teams in Canada and Brazil.
TRAINING, DEVELOPMENT, AND PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT
Support managers through the full performance management cycle.
Coordinate and deliver training programs, leadership development workshops, and compliance-based training sessions.
Contribute to succession planning initiatives by identifying high-potential employees and supporting development roadmaps.
Support employee engagement programs, including surveys, recognition initiatives, and service award programs.
Provide HR guidance for R&D projects, ensuring proper documentation, regulatory alignment, and compliance with internal quality systems.
DIVERSITY, CULTURE, AND ENGAGEMENT
Support employee engagement strategies that foster a positive workplace culture and team cohesion.
Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion through structured programs, education initiatives, and cultural integration activities.
Strengthen internal communication strategies to reinforce company values and organizational culture.
CROSS-BORDER HR COLLABORATION (CANADA/BRAZIL)
Participate in monthly HR alignment meetings with Corporate HR Brazil to support coordination of HR initiatives, policies, and KPIs.
Support cross-border workflows related to compensation alignment, talent development programs, performance cycle processes, and organizational planning.
Prepare and deliver HR reports and presentations for Brazilian leadership and shareholders.
Collaborate with HR Brazil on complex employee relations cases, disability claims, and cross-functional projects.
HR STRATEGY, BUSINESS OPERATIONS, AND POLICY SUPPORT
Analyze HR trends to support workforce planning discussions.
Support organizational restructuring initiatives, including headcount analysis, budget impact assessments, and workforce realignment.
Support HR projects related to business transformation, cultural integration, and operational efficiency.
Coordinate procurement of HR-related resources, including IT equipment, software, licenses, training platforms, and uniforms.
Provide administrative and strategic support to Canadian and Brazilian senior management as required.
Contribute to continuous improvement of HR processes by supporting the implementation of best practices and innovative HR solutions aligned with organizational goals.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Language of work: Proficiency in English is required.
College diploma in human resources management or a related field; additional education or specialized HR training is an asset.
Due to the operational demands of the business and the need for independent performance with minimal supervision a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience as an HR Generalist or in a similar human resources role.
Experience in human resources within a research and development or pharmaceutical environment is a strong asset.
Experience with HRIS systems and cross-border HR operations in multinational organizations.
Experience with HRIS and payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Dayforce) is an asset.
Ability to work independently as the sole HR representative in Canada.
Strong knowledge of the Ontario Employment Standards Act, the Ontario Human Rights Code, and Brazilian employment legislation.
High degree of confidentiality, professionalism, and sound judgment.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively at all organizational levels.
Strong organizational, analytical, and presentation skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
Advanced problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Power BI.
