Progressive Plan International Inc., headquartered in Western Canada, is a forward-thinking consultancy specializing in industrial shutdowns, turnarounds, and outages (STOs), as well as advanced project management solutions across the public and private sectors. We collaborate with clients, contractors, and specialty vendors to deliver optimized, technology-enabled planning and scheduling solutions that enhance operational performance and execution excellence. Progressive Plan International is currently seeking a Senior Project Controls Technologist (NOC 22302) for a permanent, full-time position based in Calgary, Alberta.

 

Job Duties:

  • Build complete planning work packages including job steps, labour and craft estimates, material lists, QA/QC requirements, access plans, and HSE constraints for industrial maintenance and operations projects.
  • Develop, maintain, and update schedules using Primavera P6 and MS Project for all phases of industrial maintenance operations.
  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, operations, maintenance, and contract service providers to validate scope, sequence, duration, and resource requirements.
  • Conduct work measurement studies and monitor progress using productivity data and percent complete. Identify variances, analyze root causes, and recommend corrective action.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports, dashboards, and performance metrics to support planning and decision-making.
  • Collect, analyze, and compile operational and project data to assist in the development of estimates, schedules, specifications, and reports.
  • Analyze workflow, identify bottlenecks, and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and schedule adherence.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of quality assurance processes, project control procedures, and reporting standards.
  • Participate in post-project review sessions (lessons learned), update work standards and productivity norms, and improve planning assumptions for future operations.
  • Support managers in resource planning, forecasting, and productivity tracking.
  • Prepare and manage work packs using tools such as Cleopatra, STOx, ROSER, and SAP, including activity logic, sequencing, and resource loading for shutdowns, turnarounds, and maintenance events.
  • Support scope definition, schedule optimization, and critical path analysis in coordination with engineers and project teams.
  • Assist with the migration, implementation, and optimization of planning systems, work-pack templates, and scheduling tools to improve productivity and planning efficiency.
  • Conduct field walkdowns and site inspections to collect operational data, validate scope, and verify planning assumptions and constraints.
  • Prepare technical reports, KPIs, and progress summaries using Power BI, Excel, and planning systems to support project controls and decision-making.
  • Maintain planning documentation and records in SharePoint or document control systems.
  • Ensure planning and scheduling activities comply with company procedures, safety standards, and project control best practices. Support audits, internal reviews, and post-project closeout documentation.

Skills Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or equivalent
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years in planning/scheduling for Shutdown, Turnaround and EPC projects.
  • Minimum of 5 major Turnaround Projects experience.
  • Hands-on exposure to tools such as SAP, Primavera, MS Project, Roser, STOx, Cleopatra WPM, and Power B
