Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Sous-Chef to assist with kitchen management and support our head chef in delivering high-quality meals. The successful candidate will supervise kitchen staff, maintain food quality standards, and ensure smooth kitchen operations in a fast-paced café environment. Experience in bakery production and brunch-style cafés is highly valued.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Estimate amounts and costs of supplies and food items
Estimate labour costs and maintain budget records
Maintain records of food costs, consumption, sales, and inventory
Analyze operating costs and other data
Demonstrate new cooking techniques and equipment to kitchen staff
Create new recipes and menu items
Instruct cooks in preparation, cooking, garnishing, and presentation of food
Supervise cooks and other kitchen staff (5–10 people)
Prepare and cook meals or specialty foods
Requisition food and kitchen supplies, arrange for equipment purchases and repairs
Plan menus and ensure food meets quality standards
Prepare dishes for customers with food allergies or intolerances
Train staff in preparation, cooking, and handling of food
Lead, instruct, and mentor kitchen staff

 

Required Experience & Qualifications:

Minimum 1–2 years of bakery experience, including preparing and baking goods in-house
Experience working in a brunch café specializing in Australian-style brunch considered a strong asset
Minimum 2 years experience in a professional kitchen or in a supervisory culinary role
Food Safety Certificate (required)
Strong leadership and organizational skills
Ability to work flexible hours, including mornings, evenings, and weekends
