Overview
Job Duties:
- Design fire sprinkler and standpipe systems using AutoCAD, Revit, and/or specialized fire protection software in a construction environment.
- Determine the applicable hazard(s) being protected and develop applicable fire sprinkler protection strategies in accordance with applicable Building codes, standards, and other project specific requirements
- Perform hydraulic calculations based on the applicable hazards being protected
- Interpret architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical plans to develop coordinated sprinkler system piping and sprinkler locations
- Prepare detailed design document submittals for approval
- Prepare detailed material lists for fabrication and installation
- Verify that all deliverables meet NFPA standards and local ordinances
- Collaborate with management, estimating, design, fabrication, installation and project management as a valuable team member resulting in increased profitability
Skills Requirements:
- 3-5 years’ working experience in fire protection design or related field or a recent graduate of post-secondary program in Fire Protection Engineering or related field of study.
- Knowledge of the design, layout, hydraulic calculations, stock listing of fire protections systems
- Project management knowledge is an asset.
- NICET Certification in Water-Based Systems Layout is considered an asset, and/or able to become certified.
- Proficiency using AutoCAD and/or Revit, MS Office, HydraCAD, and a hydraulic calculation & listing program(s) to design and layout systems.
- Experience with HydraCAD and/or HydraCAD for Revit is an asset
- Interpret and apply applicable Building/Fire codes & NFPA standards
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
- Obtain/retain any licenses required by national, province and local codes, and Troy Policies.
- Obtaining and retaining NICET I certification in Automatic Sprinkler System Layout is an asset
- Successfully achieving NICET I within two years, NICET II within 2 to 5 years of equivalent trade experience is an asset

Wage: $33.00/hour to $38.00/hour (depending on experience), 37.5 hours salaried
