Position Overview

UP Vertical Farms Ltd, a pioneering leader in sustainable vertical farming and agri-technology, is seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Heavy-Duty Mechanic to join our Maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the repair, maintenance, diagnostics, and overhaul of heavy-duty equipment used in a variety of industrial and client operations, ensuring that all equipment remains reliable, safe, and fully operational.

This is a Full-Time, Managerial, Fixed-Salary position within the Maintenance Department at UP Vertical Farms Ltd. The Heavy-Duty Mechanic reports directly to the CEO. Work hours may vary depending on project and maintenance schedules and may include weekdays, evenings, and/or weekends.

Primary duties include heavy-duty equipment mechanics repair, troubleshooting, adjustment, overhaul and maintenance of mobile heavy-duty equipment of client businesses. Employees are expected to follow all applicable standard operating procedures, safety guidelines, equipment-handling protocols, and client-specific operational requirements.

Depending on the needs, the area of where work is performed may change and may be physically demanding. The role requires strong attention to detail, adaptability, punctuality, and the ability to manage time to meet daily maintenance objectives.

Performance is evaluated by a supervisor based on productivity, adherence to quality and safety standards, ability to meet maintenance deadlines, and contribution to the overall success of the team and company mission of delivering reliable, innovative, and future-ready maintenance solutions.
Duties and Responsibilities

Include but are not limited to:

  • Check bulldozers, cranes, graders and other heavy construction, agricultural, logging and mining equipment for proper performance and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine extent of repair required
  • Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems, using hand and power tools
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturers’ specifications
  • Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment
  • Service attachments and working tools such as harvesting and tillage equipment, blades, ploughs, winches and side booms
  • May perform repair work on heavy trucks
  • May attach components and adjust new farm equipment.
  • Oversee maintenance department budgeting and costs
  • Supervise contractors and subordinates
  • Ensure compliance with company policies
  • Train staff
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of prior experience as a Heavy Duty Mechanic
  • Must be 16 years of age.
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada.
  • Experience is an asset

Working conditions

  • Must be able to work on-site or at client businesses.
  • Work atmosphere is professional and cordial.
  • Physically demanding

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Fixed Salary: $2,295 per week or $4,590 bi-weekly
  • Extended health, dental, life insurance after 3 months

Work schedule:

  • 40 hours per week
  • Mornings, Days, evenings shifts or night shifts on weekdays or weekends.
  • Managers are expected to manage their own schedules independently

Training:

  • On-site and on-the-job training
