ABOUT WILDWOOD CHILD CARE CENTRE
Wildwood Child Care Centre is a licensed childcare facility in North Vancouver, BC. We provide early childhood education and care for children from infancy through school age, with a strong emphasis on nature-based and play-based learning. Our practice is guided by the British Columbia Early Learning Framework (ELF), which views children as capable, curious and full of potential.
POSITION OVERVIEW
Wildwood is seeking an experienced Early Childhood Program Supervisor to lead pedagogy and program quality across our centre. The Program Supervisor plans and leads ELF-informed programming, supervises and mentors ECEs and ECE assistants, and acts as the person in charge when the Centre Director is absent.
This is a hands-on, child-facing leadership role. It combines daily direct work with children, pedagogical leadership of the educator team, and responsibility for documentation and licensing compliance.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Pedagogical Leadership and the BC Early Learning Framework
• Lead the planning and delivery of emergent, play-based and nature-based programs grounded in the BC Early Learning Framework (ELF)
• Plan experiences across the ELF areas of early learning: well-being and belonging; exploration and creativity; languages and literacies; and social responsibility and diversity
• Lead pedagogical narration: observe, document and interpret children’s learning, and use it with colleagues and families to inform planning
• Facilitate regular critical reflection and planning meetings with the educator team
• Support educators to embed Indigenous perspectives, ways of knowing and reconciliation in daily practice, in partnership with local First Nations resources where appropriate
• Ensure programs meet the BC Child Care Licensing Regulation and the centre’s curriculum philosophy
Child Supervision and Care
• Provide attentive, responsive care and supervision of children during all program hours
• Guide children in healthy routines, including eating, hygiene, rest and social behaviour
• Identify signs of developmental, behavioural or emotional concerns and communicate them to families and the Director
• Coordinate with families and community professionals, such as Supported Child Development consultants, to plan inclusive supports for children with additional needs
• Ensure the physical safety and emotional well-being of all children at all times
Staff Leadership and Mentorship
• Supervise, guide and mentor ECEs and ECE assistants in daily program delivery
• Act as person in charge of the centre in the Director’s absence, including managing ratios, staff coverage and incident response
• Assist with staff scheduling to maintain licensing ratios and group sizes
• Orient new staff to centre routines, policies and ELF-based practice
• Supervise and evaluate ECE practicum students from post-secondary programs
• Provide input on staff performance, training needs and program quality to the Director
Family and Community Engagement
• Build respectful relationships with families and share their children’s learning regularly
• Lead parent meetings, program events and family engagement initiatives
• Act as the main point of contact for families on programming and child progress
Digital Documentation and Administration
• Maintain attendance, incident reports and developmental records using the centre’s digital childcare platform (for example, Lillio, Storypark or brightwheel)
• Create digital learning stories and portfolios and share them with families through the platform
• Communicate with staff and families through email, messaging apps and video calls
• Use cloud-based tools (Google Workspace or Microsoft 365) for program plans, schedules and shared records
• Complete online professional development and manage certification renewals through the BC ECE Registry online portal
• Maintain licensing compliance and help prepare for licensing inspections
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• Early Childhood Education certificate or diploma recognized under the BC Child Care Licensing Regulation
• ECE certification
• Minimum 2 years of experience as an Early Childhood Educator in a licensed childcare setting
• Experience in a supervisory, lead or senior ECE role is an asset
• Infant/Toddler Educator and/or Special Needs Educator certification is an asset
• Current First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain before start
• Criminal Record Check satisfactory under the Child Care Licensing Regulation
SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
• Working knowledge of the BC Early Learning Framework and pedagogical narration
• Ability to plan and lead emergent, play-based and nature-based programs
• Leadership skills to supervise, mentor and support educators and practicum students
• Clear communication with children, families and colleagues
• Commitment to inclusive practice, cultural safety and reconciliation
• Organized and reliable; able to work independently and as part of a team
DIGITAL SKILLS
Training on the centre’s systems will be provided. After training, the successful candidate will be able to:
• Use online childcare platforms for attendance, documentation and family communication (for example, Lillio, Storypark or brightwheel)
• Create digital documentation, including photos, learning stories and portfolios
• Use email, video conferencing and cloud tools such as Google Workspace or Microsoft 365
• Complete online training and manage certification through the BC ECE Registry portal
WHAT WE OFFER
• Wage of $36.00 to $42.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
