Overview

Millar Brooke Farm Limited (“Millar Brooke” or “MBF”) is a family-owned equestrian show jumping training & competition stable.  Built by equestrian royalty, Millar Brooke exceeds its reputation as one of the most successful programs in equestrian sports history. MBF consistently strives to produce top show jumping horses & riders while always offering the best in equine care, working alongside world-renowned vets, farriers and support staff.

Millar Brooke is currently looking for two (2) Livestock Labourer (Groom) to join our team. You will be working out of our headquarters located at 119 Millar Brooke Way, Perth, Ontario, K7H 0H6.

This is a permanent, full-time position, based on 44 hours per week.  Further information respecting the position can be found below.

 

Position

As a Livestock Labourer for Millar Brooke, you will be responsible for horse welfare and capable of performing a variety of stable duties, including grooming, feeding, exercising, and maintaining a clean, safe environment. Duties will include (but are not limited to):

 

·         Prepare horses for competition: grooming, clipping, braiding, banding, and polishing tack.

·         Ensure horses are clean, well-presented, and properly tacked for classes.

·         Maintain calm, efficient routines in high-pressure show environments.

·         Travel to horse shows; manage horse care before, during, and after travel.

·         Feed, water, and medicate horses according to show schedules and dietary needs.

·         Monitor horse health, behavior, and condition closely, and recognize when changes need to be made to a horse’s care/maintenance program.

·         Keep grooming and show tack organized, clean, and in excellent condition.

·         Assist with loading/unloading horses and equipment.

·         Coordinate with trainers, riders, vets, and farriers as needed.

·         Maintain clean and safe stabling areas at shows and home base.

·         Have knowledge of rules and regulations for competitions of the national and international federations.

 

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who meets the following minimum requirements:

·         At least three (3) years caring for horses, specifically.

·         At least two (2) years caring for competitive show jumpers (horses).

·         Attention to detail for the care and maintenance of high-performance athletes, and rigorous competition schedules.

·         Excellent horse handling skills and familiarity with show prep techniques.

·         Work effectively in a team, as well as independently.

·         Good work ethic and positive attitude.

·         Able to communicate (listening and speaking) in English.

·         Willing and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, during all seasons.

 

Compensation

We offer a generous compensation package, which includes:

·         Wage: $21.00 – 27.00 per hour, based on 44 hours of work per week (overtime is paid after 44 hours per week).

·         Vacation: 14 paid days per year

·         Eligible for incremental salary increases in accordance with standard company policies.
