Overview
Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, attentive, and reliable Live-in Caregiver to support a senior experiencing vision loss and mild dementia. This role focuses on providing nighttime supervision, ensuring safety, assisting with personal care as needed, and offering reassurance in a calm, structured environment.
The ideal candidate is patient, observant, and confident in supporting individuals with cognitive and visual impairments, with a strong emphasis on safety, dignity, and comfort throughout the night.
Key Responsibilities
Supervision & Safety
● Administer bedside and personal care
● Perform light housekeeping and cleaning duties
● Provide companionship
● Prepare and serve nutritious meals
● Cook
● Assist with nighttime awakenings, including safe transfers to and from bed or washroom.
● Maintain a hazard-free environment, ensuring clear pathways and proper lighting for low vision.
● Provide orientation and reassurance if the senior becomes disoriented or confused.
Personal Care & Hygiene
● Assist with toileting, incontinence care, bathing and hygiene
● Support safe handwashing and cleanliness routines.
● Help with dressing or repositioning for comfort as required.
Mobility Assistance
● Provide steady support movement to prevent falls.
● Assist in regular exercise, e.g. walks
● Ensure proper use of mobility aids (e.g., cane, safety belt).
● Guide and verbally cue the senior due to reduced vision.
Medication & Eye Care
● Administer prescribed medications and eye drops during overnight hours as scheduled.
● Monitor for any side effects or changes in condition.
Comfort & Reassurance
● Offer calm companionship if the senior wakes during the night.
● Use clear verbal communication and gentle guidance to reduce anxiety related to vision loss or confusion.
● Support a consistent nighttime routine to promote restful sleep.
Light Housekeeping Duties
● Perform minimal housekeeping tasks as needed (e.g., tidying, laundry, preparing items for morning).
● Prepare simple Chinese overnight or early morning snacks if required.
Health Monitoring
● Observe and document any changes in physical condition, sleep patterns, or cognitive state.
● Respond appropriately to emergencies or unusual behaviors.
Documentation & Communication
● Maintain clear overnight logs of activities, sleep patterns, and any incidents.
● Communicate updates to family or daytime caregivers.
Qualifications
● At least high school education
● At least 5 years of experience in caregiving, especially with dementia and/or vision impairment, preferred.
● Strong observational skills and calm decision-making in low-light or quiet environments.
● Patient, empathetic, and able to provide reassurance during confusion or distress.
● Fluent in Cantonese, preferably.
● Criminal Record Check required.
● Physically able to handle weight between 45 to 60 kg
● Must be client focus, dependable, flexibility and organized
● Initiative, possess good judgment, patient and honest
