Specific Skills:

Accompany patients on outdoor recreational activities. Assist with cleaning, sterilizing, setting up and assembling of medical equipment. Assist with maintenance and repair of medical equipment. Perform other duties related to patient care and comfort. Perform other duties related to personal care. Supply and empty bed pans. Take patients’ blood pressure, temperature and pulse. Serve meal trays and feed patients. Weigh, lift, turn and position patients. Make beds and maintain patients’ rooms. Supervise patients’ exercise routines. Administer suppositories, colonic irrigations and enemas. Maintain inventory of supplies. Bathe, dress and groom patients. Answer call signals to determine patients’ needs. Collect specimens. Administer first aid in emergency situations. Document observations on patients’ specimens. Assist with transport of high-risk patients. Clean and dress wounds. Record vital signs. Record observations. Address and document symptoms and changes in patients’ conditions. Monitor patients and advise physician of any changes in patients’ condition. Position patients. Performs a wider range of medical procedures. Measure and record blood pressure, vital signs monitoring, temperature, pulse, respiration rate, and oxygen saturation; report abnormalities to the physician or visiting nurse. Observe physical and behavioural changes; chart findings and communicate concerns to medical personnel and answer any call signals. Provide personal care following a client care plan. Assist with ambulation, mobility and positioning, transfers, turning, and positioning to prevent pressure injuries and support circulation. Provide bathing, grooming, and pre-treatment preparation as directed by nursing or medical staff. Assist with feeding only when necessary for medical reasons (e.g., dysphagia precautions, therapeutic diets). Check for bruises, open wounds, or other skin ailments. Collect urine, stool, or sputum samples as instructed for diagnostic purposes. Implement infection-prevention measures and control, including PPE use, disinfection of patient equipment, and waste segregation. Assist patients with prescribed physiotherapy or range-of-motion exercises. Administer first aid within scope of competence and alert emergency services or attending physician. Perform tasks by checking and cleaning medical assistive equipment for safety and functionality or assisting with the setup of certain equipment. May perform specific, directed clinical tasks such as administering suppositories, and enemas if required. Record and document fluid intake and output, while also observing patients’ progress, symptoms and behaviour, and report key observations. Record vital signs, care activities, and observations on daily charts; maintain confidentiality of medical information. Clean, assemble, and maintain patient-care equipment (wheelchairs, walkers, suction devices, and assistive devices); Monitor inventory of sterile and non-sterile supplies. Assist with transfer of patients to external medical appointments when ordered.
